The terrorist organisation – which has run Gaza since 2007 – said it “targeted” the vessel with a “batch of rockets”.
Today the Al-Qassam Brigade – Hamas’ military wing – tweeted: “We targeted an Israeli battleship at sea off the coast of Gaza with a batch of rockets.”
It is currently unclear if the vessel was hit or suffered any damage.
The attack comes after the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) said Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups had shot more than 3,000 rockets at it from Gaza over recent days.
Around 90 percent of these were shot down by Israel’s missile defence system – while around 240 managed to make it through – killing 10 Israeli civilians.
The news came as the Israel/Palestine conflict has led to hundreds of deaths over the past few days.
This is a breaking news story.
