‘I’m not drunk or a slapper!’ Furious Labour MP snaps at trolls attacking Commons outfit

Labour MP Tracy Brabin was forced to take to Twitter after she was attacked over the outfit she wore in the House of Commons with some online commentators claiming her clothing choice was “inappropriate”. The 58-year-old said: “Sorry I don’t have time to reply to all of you commenting on this but I can confirm I’m not…. A slag, hungover, a tart, about to breastfeed, a slapper, drunk, just been banged over a wheelie bin.

“Who knew people could get so emotional over a shoulder…”

She added an eye-roll emoji after her post.

This was after commentators remarked on her dress, which fell off the shoulder and down her arm.

One commenter said: “Tracy Brabin taking advantage of the relaxed dress code.”

Another said: “Has she just fallen out the pub?”

Another added simply: “My wife has the same dress as MP Tracy Brabin!”

Another added: “@HouseofCommons I thought there was a dress code, did Tracy Brabin follow that code on Monday?

“The bare shoulder is distracting, looks like the sleeve has slipped, the men couldn’t get away with revealing clothes. Where’s the equality!”

A fifth comment read: “Looks like she was banged over the wheelie bin at the back of the pub last night.”

Another comment read: “It was inappropriate dress for HofC or any workplace other than a nightclub.”

Ms Brabin took over her role from Jo Cox, who was murdered by far-right extremist Thomas Mair in 2016.

It comes as new Speaker Lindsay Hoyle announced mothers could breastfeed in the House of Commons, declaring an end to the so-called Bercow era in Parliament.

Sir Lindsay called for a kinder Commons where he would also allow breastfeeding in the chamber.

Baroness Boothroyd ruled that breastfeeding was not allowed in the Commons chamber in 2000 when she was the Speaker.

But, Sir Lindsay said he would not block breastfeeding when asked if he would allow it in the chamber or committee rooms.

He said: “I’m of the view there isn’t a policy, my view is that it is up to a mother.

“I think it would be wrong for me as a male to dictate on that policy. If it happens, it happens.

“I wouldn’t be upset by it, let’s put it that way.”
