Ms Best slammed Sadiq Khan for distancing himself from Cressida Dick in the past few weeks due to the backlash and public calls for her resignation. The Assembly Member also criticised the Mayor of London for his conduct in handling the backlash embroiling Dame Cressida. The now former Commissioner resigned days after Mr Khan publicly stated that anyone who is not up to his standards would be expected to resign.
Speaking to GB News, Ms Best said: “It does seem a little bit like Sadiq Khan, instead of taking on the problems with the leadership of the Met, he’s distancing himself entirely from the police.
“Now he has a leadership responsibility here as well.
“But this very public way that in which this has been put on Cressida, whatever failings we may assign to her, he’s completely distanced himself from that.
“And he’s made the Met something wholly separate from him as the Mayor of London.

Ms Best added: “And that’s why I think it’s unacceptable, now Sadiq Khan talked a lot the way in which in the UK we police with consent.
“And that is very important but it seems like the police at times are policing without his consent.
“And the way in which he’s handled this has only really strengthened those feelings within our serving force.”
Just a day before Ms Dick handed in her resignation and stepped down as Met Police Commissioner, Mr Khan hinted that he had begun to distance himself from the Commissioner when asked about those working under him not doing their jobs to their best ability.
Mr Khan said: “Yeah it’s very important for Londoners to know that if anyone who works for me isn’t up to the standards I would expect them to go.”

Mr Khan held a 90-minute meeting with Ms Dick after an investigative watchdog report uncovered that some Metropolitan police officers had made vile jokes about “raping” and “hate-f*****g” other female police officers working at the Met.
The investigation into the Met environment began in March 2018 after serious allegations were made about a male officer having sex with a woman at a police station.
Calls for Ms Dick came after the tragic murder of Sarah Everard last March at the hands of the now-convicted Wayne Couzens who was serving as Met Officer at the time of the murder.
Ms Dick touched upon the shocking crime in her statement to the British public.
The former Commissioner said: “It is with huge sadness that following contact with the Mayor of London today, it is clear that the Mayor no longer has sufficient confidence in my leadership to continue.
“He has left me no choice but to step aside as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service.”
Ms Dick added: “This is the Met where every hour of every day our people perform heroic acts to protect the public. We are more accountable, more transparent and more open than ever – with deeper links to our communities.
“The murder of Sarah Everard and many other awful cases recently have, I know, damaged confidence in this fantastic police service. There is much to do – and I know that the Met has turned its full attention to rebuilding public trust and confidence. For that reason, I am very optimistic about the future for the Met and for London.
“Thank you to everyone in the Met and those who work with us for the extraordinary efforts you make each and every day.
“The public depend on you, for your professionalism, courage, compassion and integrity. You make a huge difference to people’s lives every day. I salute you.”
