Grassroots Tories on STRIKE over May’s Brexit delay – ‘SERIOUS MISTAKE!’
Derbyshire Conservatives have “overwhelmingly” backed a motion that essentially means they will go on strike during the elections next month over Mrs May’s controversial Article 50 extension, which has meant Britain will compete in the European ballot. Councillor Barry Lewis who leads the group, wrote to the chairman of the the Conservative Party, Brandon Lewis, detailing their frustration at the fact Britain has not left the EU on March 29 as promised by Mrs May, The Daily Telegraph reports. He said: “We were promised, following the largest public mandate a UK Government has ever received that we would be out by the 29th March.
“The Prime Minister said we would be out by that date countless times, so did many others in Government and yet here we are racing towards the end of April and facing an increased prospect of participating in a European Election in May that should not be happening.”
Barry Lewis then expressed his rage at talks between Mrs May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, a move condemned by the Tories for giving the opposition party “credibility.”
He said: “I informed Brandon that inviting Jeremy Corbyn to the table in an attempt to pass a deal was in our view a serious mistake for the Prime Minister and, consequently, our Party.
“Especially given the perceived problems of antisemitism and the disturbing brand of left wing views being expressed within the Labour Party under his leadership.
“Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party under him, deserve no credibility.”
The letter comes amid the Conservative Party losing an eye-watering amount of support to Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, according to polls.
A YouGov poll suggested that the Conservatives only had 15 percent of the vote ahead of the European elections, whereas the combined score of UKIP and the Brexit Party had shot to 34 percent.
Tory Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg has said Mr Farage’s new Brexit Party has “moderated” British politics and taken votes away from Ukip, branded “thuggish” by Mr Farage.
