Dmitry Medvedev who was President of Russia from 2008 to 2012, has taken to Twitter to give people an insight into his predictions for 2023. On the social media platform he wrote: “On the New Year’s Eve, everybody’s into making predictions.

“Many come up with futuristic hypotheses, as if competing to single out the wildest, and even most absurd ones. Here’s our humble contribution.”

In the year which will see the conflict between Russia and Ukraine reach the significant milestone of 12 months, Mr Medvedev predicted a number of other outcomes.

Along with his prediction that the oil price per barrel will see an increase, he also stated that 2023 will see “the UK will re-join the EU”.

He added: “The EU will collapse after the UK’s return; Euro will drop out of use as the former EU currency.”

Among a number of other eventualities, he also predicted the break-up and fracturing of Europe, civil war in the US, and that Northern Ireland will leave the UK and join the Republic of Ireland.

Twitter users mocked the Russian calling him “desperate” and asking if he had “just drained a few bottles of vodka” while thanking him “for the laugh”.

Political scientist and Twitter user @JasminMuj added: “This thread is an important reminder of why drugs are so dangerous.”

“You really think the EU will let the UK join?”, another asked as @MEHMiller2 replied: “we don’t ever want to re-join that corrupt cabal.

“Other countries will leave before it inevitably collapses in a giant pile of debt.”

The comments come just days after polling results by The Times found that just one in three Leave voters believe that Brexit has been a success.

The survey conducted by YouGov on the second anniversary of the Brexit deal, showed that 41 percent of voters who supported Brexit said that leaving the European Union has had a worse impact on the UK than they thought it would in 2016.

Meanwhile, 23 percent said Brexit negatively impacted Britain’s position in the world, as 34 percent said it was bad for the economy and 41 percent said it had a negative impact on immigration.

The results of the poll also showed that more Leave voters than not now support a closer relationship with Europe, including potentially re-joining the single market.

Despite these findings, very few voters (20 percent overall) would support reversing the 2016 referendum result.

A source from Brussels told the i: “Only in the UK are people still arguing about Brexit.

“No one in Europe thinks about it anymore.”

Despite this, the bloc and the UK are still undergoing negotiations and talks which are largely focused on trading arrangements for Northern Ireland.
