Denver Mayor Michael Hancock extended his stay-at-home order to combat the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed 16 people in the city.

“I know this isn’t easy, but given the current data and advice from experts about the spread of COVID-19 these are the actions that will get us on the other side of this curve and protect our health,” Hancock wrote on Twitter.

The mayor first issued the stay-at-home order in late March, effective through April 10, but said last week that more time would be needed to combat community transmission and he would extend the city order if Gov. Jared Polis didn’t extend the statewide one.

Under the extension, the details of the order will remain the same: Restaurants can still offer carryout and delivery. Denver International Airport will continue to operate, and group activities are prohibited in city parks. Liquor stores, marijuana dispensaries and firearm retailers are allowed to remain open, as well.
