In an interview today, the current Labour leader said that the pair had not spoken since the publication of a report into allegations of antisemitism in the party in October 2020. Jeremy Corbyn was subsequently suspended as a Labour MP and is yet to be reinstated.

Now Sir Keir has said he has “not spoken to Jeremy since the night before” the Equality and Human Rights Commission report was published.

He added: “So I phoned Jeremy the night before the report, because I’d seen an embargoed copy of the report, just to assure him that I was going to take responsibility as the now-leader of the Labour Party for what was in the report and I was going to set out what I was going to do as leader of the Labour Party to put it right – because I knew there would be a lot of focus on him.

“So that was the last discussion I had with Jeremy.”

Reacting to the news, Sean Biggerstaff, a Harry Potter actor who was pictured with Mr Corbyn two days before the 2019 general election, said: “He’s [Sir Keir] just worthless. A total snake.”

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) published a highly critical report into how the party had handled antisemitism claims within the party during Mr Corbyn’s leadership.

Following the publication of the report, Mr Corbyn said that the scale of the antisemitism in the party had been “dramatically overstated”.

He was suspended as a Labour Party member and a Labour MP, but reinstated as a Labour Party member after he admitted that the antisemitism problem had been neither “exaggerated nor overstated”.

However, he was denied resuming his position as a Labour MP.

Sir Keir called for Mr Corbyn to apologise for his reaction to the report.

He suggested that at present he would not be able to stand as a Labour candidate in a general election.

Sir Keir added that Jeremy Corbyn “knows what he must do” to be reinstated as an MP.

Asked by Nick Robinson on the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast whether he would return the Labour whip to Mr Corbyn – which would allow him to stand as a Labour candidate – Sir Keir said that “it’s up to him”.

He added: “He knows what he must do in order to move this forward. He’s not chosen to do so – that’s his choice.”

Questioned on whether he thought it likely that Mr Corbyn would not be able to stand under the red rosette, Sir Keir responded: “I don’t know, but at the moment that may be the case.”

Even though the next election is due to take place in 2024, Sir Keir speculated that it could take place as early as May 2023.

He said he had put his part “on a footing” to be ready for an early poll.

Mr Corbyn was at the helm when Labour suffered its worst electoral defeat since 1935 in 2019.

For the first time since January this year, Sir Keir’s favourability for being Prime Minister went above that of Boris Johnson’s, in the wake of the Tory sleaze row.

Last week, 30 percent of people thought Sir Keir would make the better PM to Mr Johnson’s 28 percent, according to YouGov polling.

However, as of Monday this week, the Labour leader’s disapproval rating stood at 56 percent.

Other Corbynistas on Twitter also reacted angrily to Sir Keir’s disclosure.

@marisaaitken commented: “What part of any of this so-called leader’s words and actions speaks unity – not to mention decency, compassion and respect?”

Meanwhile, @PATSTONE55 called him an “absolutely deranged ratbag.”
