Chris Whitty warns Covid restrictions to carry on till NEXT WINTER ‘This won’t disappear’

Coronavirus: UK records over 60,000 cases

Professor Chris Whitty has warned that winter 2021 could see a resurgence in strict coronavirus restrictions. England’s Chief Medical Officer claimed this would be because winter “benefits” the spread of the virus. He made the claims during a Downing Street briefing, as he outlined the possible lifting of restrictions throughout the year.

He said: “The risk level is gradually going to decrease and things will be able to be lifted by degrees, possibly at different rates in different parts of the country.

“We’ll then get, over time, to a point where people say this level of risk is to a point where society is able to tolerate.

“We could lift to almost no restrictions at all, although we migth have to bring a few in in the next winter, for example.

“That is possible because winter will benefit the virus.”
