The top civil servant’s report into alleged lockdown-breaking parties at Downing Street was published last night. And while it blasted Mr Johnson’s Government for a “failure of leadership” over the 16 events she examined, much of its details were removed while a police investigation continues.

Never one to miss an opportunity to kick Mr Johnson – who was instrumental in delivering Brexit – the pro-Rejoin European Movement sent out an email mocking him.

Entitled “The Report”, it was from a fictional “Sue Grey”, which is the incorrect spelling of the senior official’s name.

In a reference to much of the document’s details being redacted, it simply said “Dear John” while the rest of the text was blacked out.

Writer Jonn Elledge shared an image of the email on his Twitter account.

Alongside it, he wrote: “The European Movement just sent out an email from ‘Sue Grey’.

“The cheeky f**ks.”

Speaking after the release of her report, Ms Gray said she had been “extremely limited” in what could be released because of the Met Police probe.

This meant that a “meaningful” report could not be published yet.

Much more information will be released after the conclusion of the criminal investigation, she said.

But in the snippets that were released, Ms Gray gave a scathing account of the activities in Downing Street while lockdown restrictions were in place.

She said that some of the gatherings did not observe the high standards “expected of the entire British population at the time”.

She added: “There were failures of leadership and judgement by different parts of Number 10 and the Cabinet Office at different times.

“Some of the events should not have been allowed to take place.

“Other events should not have been allowed to develop as they did.”

The Met said it is looking into 12 events for alleged breaches of lockdown rules.

This includes three that Mr Johnson reportedly attended and one in his flat.

The force has confirmed it has received more than 500 pages of documents and 300 pictures as part of its investigation.

It added that it expects to conduct interviews with people who have “potentially breached” the rules.
