‘Cheating the electorate!’ Express readers blast Lib Dems for adding slogan to ballot
The fiercely pro Remain party has insisted they will revoke Article 50 if they with December 12 election. Leader Jo Swinson said: “The Liberal Democrats have been very clear – we want to remain in the European Union. “We are an internationalist party and so a Liberal Democrat majority government would revoke Article 50 on day one.
“We could stop Brexit and get on with building a brighter future, which would be more money for our NHS, in particular our mental health services, more money to give children the best start in life in our schools and helping more parents with the unaffordable costs of childcare, as well as tackling the climate emergency so that we can protect this beautiful and wonderful planet that we have and hand it on to the next generation, and not polluted and damaged.
And now to prove their point further, the Lib Dems’ slogan will now appear on their candidate’s ballot paper.
Readers were asked between 12.50pm on Friday and 9.48am whether the Lib Dems should be allowed to add “stop Brexit” to the ballot paper.
Out of the 10,948 who voted, 9,897 said no.
Only 952 agreed they should be allowed to add their slogan to the ballot.
And 99 people said they did not know.
Many readers also vented their frustration to Express.co.uk.
One person said: “This is outrageous, they are trying to cheat the electorate.”
Another added: “The Lib dems should be banned from standing in the general election under Liberal Democrats name as they are not liberal or democratic.“
A third person praised Ms Swinson for sticking to her policies.
They said: “You have to give Jo Swinson credit for sticking to her policies without any deviation.
“She’s been open about wanting to stop/reverse Brexit and with the Lib Dems you know what you’re getting.

But the same person quickly changed their mind as they then proceeded to say she was “deluded”.
They added: “I don’t agree with the majority of her policies and she is absolutely deluded if she think that the majority of British people will vote for them.”
And another simply said: “The only thing that should be on the Ballot paper is the candidates name and Party name.”
Meanwhile, the Lib Dems are currently embroiled in a battle with the Tories over both their tree-planting promises.
The Conservative Party said they will triple tree-planting rates if they win the General Election, while the Liberal Democrats promised they will plant twice as many trees as the Tories.
Boris Johnson announced a £640 million Nature for Climate fund which would increase tree planting in England, with the Government aiming to work with the devolved administrations to boost tree-planting rates to 30,000 hectares every year, which the party said could mean 30 million more trees.
But the Lib Dems said they will plant 60 million trees every year, describing it as “the largest tree-planting programme in UK history”.
They also pointed out that the Tories have “woefully failed to meet their own targets for planting trees in the past year”.
Labour also said the Conservatives failed to meet previous tree-planting targets and said this vow is an attempt by Mr Johnson to “greenwash his atrocious environmental record”.
Former environment secretary Michael Gove blamed the Common Agricultural Policy for the Government not being able to meet its targets for planting trees.
Speaking on Radio 4’s Today Programme, Mr Gove said: “We’re dedicating additional money to make sure we meet the challenge of the climate emergency.”
Pushed on the fact that the Conservative Government is not on target to deliver on their 2015 manifesto promise to plant another 11 million trees by 2020, Mr Gove said: “And that’s why we need to leave the European Union.”
