Britons rage at ‘cruel’ Labour for ‘robbing hardworking pensioners’ – poll results
Yesterday Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell revealed British pensioners on £20,000 a year would be forced to pay an extra £1,000 in tax under a Labour government, despite Jeremy Corbyn’s insistence those earning under £80,000 would not be forced to hand over extra money. Pensioners would fork out the money under changes capital gains and dividends.
The survey, carried out from 5pm on November 30 to 3pm December 1, asked: “Are Labour correct to tax pensioners earning £20,000 a year an extra £1,000?”
10,008 people responded, with the overwhelming number of respondents disagreeing with the Labour Party policy.
8,456 people (85 percent) of respondents said “no”, while just 1,128 people (11 percent) said “yes”.
424 people (four percent) said they did not know.
The Labour frontbencher said the extra money would help establish a “fairer taxation system” but voters have strongly criticised the move in an Express.co.uk poll.

Express readers then vented their fury at the Labour policy.
One person wrote: “So liebore’s idea of a “fairer taxation system” is to rob the pensioners who have worked and contributed for years to the system, while handing out money to his ‘new friends’ as they cross the channel in dinghies.”
Another branded the party “cruel” and said: “How can they be so cruel these people have worked all their lives and paid tax.
“These people deserve better go live somewhere else if you don’t like this country that much and the people in it.”

A third said: “Why are pensioners being targeting in this way? Seems unfair to me.”
Another reader said: “Labour won’t think they have achieved a fairer UK until everyone is equally poor.
“Sounds cynical but after 70 years experience with Labour I have earned that right.
“70’s and 80’s confirmed what I had always believed.”

A second person agreed and said: “A Labour government never changes its spots?
“Tax and spends others money then run away when the mess has reached its maximum! History repeats itself!”
One reader suggested the Labour leader wasn’t aware of the policy, and wrote: “Corbyn seems woefully ignorant of what his chancellor has in store.”
Another user said: “I reckon Labour are determined to avoid being elected in to Government.
“In opposition they are well paid, but don’t actually have to deliver anything.
“So they are announcing all kinds of crazy schemes.”
