Mr Farage’s right-hand man launched a scathing attack at Mr Johnson four days into his mandate. Mr Tice, a former Conservative MP, said Mr Johnson has so far only been “tip-toed along the route already trail-blazed” by Mr Farage. Mr Johnson announced today during a visit to Manchester he wants to “turbo-charge the economy” and boost the northern powerhouse. 

But Mr Tice believes it is now time for the newly-appointed Prime Minister to turn his pledges into action.

He said: “Ever since he has moved into Number 10 Boris Johnson has been raiding the Brexit Party cupboard wholesale.

“Though they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery it just isn’t enough.”  

“There is more to changing politics that touring the North and Midlands and promising a few headline infrastructure projects.

“If we really mean it we must completely refocus government to ensure that those areas that have been ignored for decades are given the opportunity that London has taken for granted.

“Zero rating for retailers outside London, introducing a £200bn investment into the rest of the UK outside London, to rebalance the economy and encourage entrepreneurship and enterprise across every town and city in these lands.”

Mr Rice then repeated the Brexit Party’s pledge to scrap the HS2, the high-speed rail project which could cost between £70bn and £85bn and Mr Johnson has repeatedly backed.  

He continued: ”We need to scrap the colossal white elephant that is HS2 and replace it with targeted and effective transport infrastructure that will have a beneficial impact across all regions in the UK, rather than drain the public coffers to do nothing but increase the flight of capital from Birmingham to London.”

And, in a final attack to Mr Johnson, Mr Tice claimed the new Cabinet still has to pull out of the hat an idea that hasn’t been taken from the Brexit Party.

He said: ”So one cheer to Boris for tip-toeing along a route already trail-blazed by Nigel Farage and the Brexit Party.

“If you want to see what the Boris an the Tories think of next, you had better watch this space, after all they have yet to have an idea of their own”. 

Mr Johnson, who was appointed by the Queen on Wednesday afternoon and reshuffled his Cabinet in the hours that followed, today set out the four “ingredients” for the success of the UK.

Listing them in front of an audience of about 100 people gathered at the Science and Industry Museum, Mr Johnson listed liveability, connectivity, culture, and power and responsibility.

According to his pledge, the Government will provide the country with better public services, affordable homes, safe streets, fast broadband and more responsibility for local areas.
