Boris Johnson clashed with Kirsten Oswald over the length of the furlough scheme and unemployment rates across Britain. During the heated exchange in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister told the SNP’s deputy Westminster leader that the UK Government has invested £2 billion into the kickstart programme to boost employment rates among 18-24 years olds.

Mr Johnson said: “The entire programme of this Government is dedicated to ensuring we go from jabs, jabs, jabs to jobs, jobs, jobs.

“She talks about kickstarting employment recovery as she knows for young people we have the £2 billion kickstart programme to get 18-24 years olds into work.

“The restart programme for those that are long-term unemployed.

“Our campaign and mission is to use the resources of the state as we have done through the pandemic to get people into work.

“Because of the extraordinary circumstances we faced we had to use the resources of the state to keep people out of work.

“We are now going through a massive programme of investment infrastructure across the whole of the UK to get people into work.

“I hope that she will support that.”
