Boris Johnson girlfriend: How Carrie Symonds is peacekeeper between PM and Sajid Javid
Boris Johnson gave his first speech at the Conservative Party conference today where he revealed details about his “final offer” to the European Union on Brexit. The Prime Minister made several jokes about his rival Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as well as poking fun at presumed family divisions on Brexit in the Johnson household, stating that his mother voted to leave and she is the “supreme authority in my family”. The Tory leader spoke in front of many political allies today, but his biggest supporters were his father Stanley and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds. But Ms Symonds might be helping her 55-year-old boyfriend much more than simply cheering him on in the crowds?
After a series of rows and disharmony in the Conservative house, Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds, 31, has started to act as a peacekeeper between the No10 top dog and the Treasury according to The Times.
Ms Symonds has been dating Mr Johnson since at least September last year.
The couple is the first unmarried couple ever to live together at Number 11 Downing Street but have also purchased a £1.3million house in south London.
Reportedly, a source close to the pair told the MailOnline: “They love each other very much and want to get married as soon as the time is right.
“Boris only has eyes for Carrie and she is totally smitten with him.”
Mr Johnson and his former wife, barrister Marina Wheeler announced they were divorcing in September last year, shortly before his relationship with Ms Symonds became public knowledge.
But the 31-year-old former Tory party PR executive appears to have taken to the role of political wife extremely well.
Ms Symonds, who worked as an aide to Sajid Javid during his time as communities secretary is said to be pitching herself as an intermediary between the two ministers.
According to the Times, friends of the Chancellor of the Exchequer said he believes she intervened on his behalf to win him his post, advising Mr Javid in favour of other candidates for the position, including Matt Hancock and Liz Truss.
Mr Javid’s term as chancellor has been tumultuous – Mr Javid facing taunts that he is a “chino”, which is a chancellor in name only, after a series of economic policies were briefed by Downing Street without his knowledge.
Tensions between Mr Javid and Mr Johnson were reportedly heightened after Sonia Khan, an aide of Mr Javid’s, was fired in August by Dominic Cummings, the PM’s senior adviser.
Attempts to repair the damaged relationship were reportedly made, including a dinner hosted by the Javid’s for senior aides from both Number 10 and 11.
Ms Symonds is said to have a very good and close relationship with Laura King, Mr Javid’s wife, and this helped her to pioneer peace between the two men.
While no-one from Mr Johnson’s camp has suggested they resent this relationship and her influence over the politician, some have been outspoken about their disagreement to certain decisions made by the PM.
A former election strategist used by Mr Johnson has been very vocal about his decided lack of involvement in any coming campaigns for the PM,.
While Mr Johnson’s former communications chief said he was opposed to the illegal prorogation.
At the same time as Mr Johnson delivered his speech, Diane Abbott made history as the first black person to represent their party of Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons.
Shadow Home Secretary Ms Abbott put questions to Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab today who is filling in for Mr Johnson.
