Former Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe said US Presidential candidate Joe Biden would be bad for the UK and its bid for a US trade deal. While speaking to Martin Daubney of Brexit Unlocked, Ms Widdecombe insisted the US election had put Americans in a difficult position. While reflecting on both candidates, Ms Widdecombe concluded that people should not rule out Donald Trump winning a second term.

She noted his accomplishments as President and argued these milestones could help sway voters.

Ms Widdecombe said: “Nancy Pelosi has made some very unhelpful comments about a trade deal.

“So I think it would not be good for Britain if Joe Biden wins.

“I am not convinced it will be good for America if Joe Biden wins and I think, once again, the American people have a lousy choice.”

Ms Widdecombe remarked on the difficulties facing the American people and the importance of the election.

She said: “America is the greatest, or at least the largest, democracy in the western world.

“They lead the western world from the point of armaments and influence and yet this is the choice the American people have got.”

Ms Widdecombe reflected on some of President Trump’s achievements as President.

She suggested these may be some of the reasons the current President could once again win the support of the American people.

She said: “Before we write-off Donald Trump, let us remember he did de-escalated North Korea.

“He has got the recent concord between parties in the Middle-East which does take a lot of doing.

“He was running a fantastic economy until COVID-19 destroyed it.

Some political commentators have argued that Trump catching coronavirus could work in the President’s favour at the ballot box.

Political commentator John Rentoul told TalkRadio Trump would be able to return to the race claiming he had beaten coronavirus and the US would beat the virus as well.
