Iran protests United Nations emergency meeting
Despite objections from Tehran and dissent from other member states, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting about the now-diminishing demonstrations in Iran.
The UN Security Council has wrapped up a special session demanded by the Trump administration on the recent protests in Iran – with the US accusing Tehran of stifling the voices of its people.
But other members objected to the meeting, insisting the Council wasn’t empowered to discuss the internal affairs of a UN member state.
But, with the support of the UK among others, the US got its wish and the debate went ahead as planned.
