    By Sarah N. Lynch

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn defended the FDA’s process for approving Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine on Sunday and denied claims by President Donald Trump that the vaccine could have been available a week sooner.

“We do not feel that this could have been out a week earlier,” Hahn said on ABC’s “This Week,” noting that the FDA went through its process appropriately and that he felt “very confident” in the decisions the agency made.

Former Vivendi Chairman Vincent Bollore, CEO Arnaud De Puyfontaine Indicted For Alleged Market Manipulation

Former Vivendi Chairman Vincent Bollore and Vivendi Chief Executive Officer Arnaud De Puyfontaine are among those charged by Italian prosecutors for allegedly driving down broadcaster Mediaset SpA’s share price in a market manipulation scheme, Bloomberg News reports.

Bollore, a French billionaire, also allegedly obstructed the work of market regulator Consob. Mediaset SpA is owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Vivendi has issued a statement denying the allegations, saying its current and former executives either acted in compliance with the law or are “extraneous” to the allegations. Mediaset has declined comment.

Vivendi and Mediaset have been embroiled in problems dating to July 2016, when Vivendi backed out of a plan to buy the Mediaset Premium pay-TV unit. That deal was valued at about $1.08 billion (893 million euros).

However, a few months later, Vivendi bought an almost 30% stake in Mediaset in an attempted takeover. Italy’s market regulator, Consob, was not informed, according to court documents.

Vivendi claims it reported all share purchases “in a timely and transparent manner.”

Court papers further claim that Vivendi spread “false information” about the reasons behind it scrapping its pay-TV deal with Mediaset.

The suspension will apply from Sunday until Panama receives “equal and fair treatment,” the authority said in a statement.

More than a dozen foreign airlines have stopped servicing Venezuela since 2014, including Delta Air Lines Inc., Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Avianca Holdings SA.

No-Deal Brexit Likely, Say UK And European Union, But Talks Continue

A self-imposed Sunday deadline for a Brexit deal has been extended by the United Kingdom and European Union, continuing the crucial discussions on trade. Both sides, though, warned that they were unlikely to reach an agreement.

This latest extension of talks between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson are billed as a “last-ditch effort.”

While prospects appeared grim, von der Leyen said it was “responsible” to go “the extra-mile.” She added that she had a “constructive and useful” phone call with Johnson.
