Vanessa Marquez’s Family Sues South Pasadena Police for Actress’ Wrongful Death
AceShowbiz -The family of late actress Vanessa Marquez has filed a $20 million (£15.3 million) lawsuit over her death.
The former “ER” star was reportedly shot and killed by police officers in Pasadena, California during a routine welfare check in September (18). At the time, a police spokesman said Marquez pointed a handgun at cops, who responded to an alert from her landlord after he called to report a woman in trouble.
However, her family is alleging police officers acted negligently and are now suing South Pasadena officials.
“Mrs. Marquez’ death was the result of the officers’ negligence, poor tactics, overreaction and use of excessive force under the circumstances,” the lawsuit reads.
According to People magazine, the actress’ passing is currently under investigation by two law enforcement agencies.
“I can confirm that the city received the claim,” reads a statement from South Pasadena government spokesman John Pope to Deadline. “The officer involved in the shooting is currently being investigated by two independent entities, the Sheriff’s Department and L.A. District Attorney’s office. We will not be commenting until the results of the investigations are complete.”
Marquez played nurse Wendy Goldman on the medical drama from 1994 to 1997.
