US eases North Korea nuke demands amid talks: report

The US is dropping its demand for North Korea to hand over a full accounting of its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, according to a report Wednesday.

US negotiators in Vietnam this week for the summit between Kim Jong Un and President Trump will no longer be demanding a full declaration of North Korea’s program, current and former senior US officials told NBC News.

That demand would be a significant part of a potential nuclear deal, but it’s also the reason serious negotiations between Pyongyang and world powers have fallen apart in the past.

The decision to drop the demand could be an indication that North Korea doesn’t plan on fully denuclearizing.

Trump and Kim’s second summit began Wednesday and included a dinner in Hanoi.
