U.S. will work with global oil producers to address volatility in markets -Trump adviser
The economy is crumbling. What will a recovery look like?
New York (CNN Business)US stock futures were up Wednesday following a rough start to the second quarter for Wall Street.
Dow (INDU) futures rose 155 points, or around 0.8%. S&P 500 (SPX) futures climbed about 0.8% and Nasdaq (COMP) futures were up 0.7%.
Stocks finished in the red for the second day in a row Wednesday. All three indexes closed down 4.4%.
The decline comes ahead of Thursday’s jobless claims report, which is expected to be even worse than last week’s record breaking number. Economists expect that 3.5 million people filed for unemployment benefits for the first time last week, according to the Refinitiv consensus estimate. Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and Barclays expect that number will be 5 million people or higher.
Meanwhile, the oil market continues to suffer. On Wednesday, Whiting Petroleum (WLL) became the first major oil producer to file for bankruptcy since oil prices sank to 18-year lows. Others are likely to follow.
Tony Winner Brian Stokes Mitchell Diagnosed With COVID-19
Tony-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell took to social media this afternoon to inform his followers that he has tested positive for coronavirus.
“I’ve been laying low for the last couple of days because I could feel my body fighting something unusual. I just got confirmation that I’ve indeed tested positive for the coronavirus,” Mitchell said in his video message.
“The good news is over the last few days I’ve isolated myself. I come to you from the bedroom right now,” added the Broadway vet, who won the Tony for his performance in Kiss Me, Kate and also holds Tony noms from his turn in Ragtime, August Wilson’s King Hedley II, and Man of La Mancha.
Thankfully, Mitchell is seemingly on the mend.
“The other good news is that for the last number of days, probably three or four, every day that has passed has been better than the previous. So I’m pretty sure I’m over the hump for this right now,” he said. “I just wanted to let you know so you don’t worry about me.”
Before signing off, he urged his followers to “take care of yourself” and “keep your social distancing.”
