Trump reportedly ‘won’ golf contest he didn’t compete in
President Trump managed to win a tournament at his own golf club without ever participating, according to a report.
A brass plaque on Trump’s locker at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach lists the Commander in Chief as the 2018 Men’s Club Champion.
But the president didn’t actually compete in the contest — and instead convinced its actual winner, Ted Virtue, to play him one-on-one for the title, Golf.com reports.
“The only reason you won is because I couldn’t play,” Trump reportedly told Virtue, complaining that his duties as leader of the free world were keeping him away from the links.
Trump visited his Palm Beach club 20 times in 2018 — and made a total 67 trips to his golf properties that year, according to trumpgolfcount.com.
The president proposed a nine-hole, winner-take-all match-up for the title, and Virtue accepted the challenge, squaring off against Trump without any rules officials present.
The final score was not clear, but Trump reportedly came out on top, and offered to share the title with Virtue.
“This isn’t fair — we’ll be co-champions,” Trump reportedly said.
Trump, 72, claims a 2.8 handicap and has won 20 titles at his clubs, including senior and super-senior titles.
