Trump now says Mueller acted honorably during Russia probe
President Trump — who has spent two years lambasting Robert Mueller and the Russia probe — changed his tune Monday and said the special counsel acted honorably.
The president, appearing at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, was asked by a reporter for ABC News whether he believed Mueller had acted honorably.
“Yes he did,” the commander-in-chief replied, without elaborating.
Mueller did not find evidence that Trump’s campaign “conspired or coordinated” with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election, but reached no conclusion on whether Trump obstructed justice, according to Attorney General William Barr.
The report brought a claim of total vindication from Trump but set the stage for new rounds of political and legal fighting.
Trump cheered the outcome but also had earlier showed his resentment after two years of investigations that have shadowed his administration.
Democrats pointed out that Mueller found evidence for and against obstruction and demanded to see his full report.
They insisted that even the summary by the president’s attorney general hardly put Trump in the clear.
