Over 25 years ago, the future of gaming was born.

The first known example of a high definition video game thought lost to time has been found.

Former executive Takahashi Meijin recently discovered the legendary discs for “Hi-Ten Bomberman” in his collection — which he acquired over the years at Hudson Soft, a Japanese gaming company.

The action-packed battle game, released in 1993, was played exclusively at Japanese tournaments, according to the tech site Siliconera.

It allowed up to ten players and was displayed on a 16:9 widescreen TV, as seen in a Youtube video from one of the events.

Most impressive was its use of HD graphics — a first for gaming — and decades ahead of its time, according to Kotaku

Bomberman was so advanced that a custom-made, nearly $2M system was built for the pixelated marvel.

Upon his discovery, Meijin donated his piece of history to a video game preservation society, where it can be saved and hopefully be released for future generations.

High def gaming isn’t Bomberman’s only legacy — the popular series continues to be made today, most recently with the release of 2017’s Super Bomberman R.
