Taxi association offers reward for info on cab driver’s killing
A Big Apple taxi association is offering a $3,000 reward to help solve the “savage” murder of one of its cab drivers Saturday night.
“We got to get this guy off the street before he gets into another cab,” said Fernando Mateo, founder of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. “He’s going to do it again.”
The livery driver was 27-year-old Ganiou Gandonou, according to Mateo.
The man was found by authorities with stab wounds to the neck and torso just after 9 p.m. in a Toyota Camry in front of 4160 Hutchinson River Parkway East, police said.
Mateo described the stabbing of Gandonou, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, as “savage attack on a young man who was trying to earn a living.”
“When you take an object and drive it into a person multiple times, you have no human feelings,” he said. “It takes an animal, someone with no type of remorse to brutally stab someone to death simply to rob him.”
Police were still hunting for murderer Sunday.
