Syracuse honors man killed by Jim Boeheim; coach gets standing ovation before Duke game
Syracuse honored Jorge Jimenez, the 51-year-old man who was killed on a highway by a Jim Boeheim-driven vehicle earlier this week, before the Orange's home game against No. 1 Duke.
More than orange-clad 30,000 people who filled the Carrier Dome paused for an emotional moment of silence as Jimenez was commemorated. The introduction was read to the crowd in both English and Spanish.
A stone-faced Boeheim entered the Carrier Dome to a standing ovation and was eventually embraced with a warm hug by his friend and opposing coach, Mike Krzyzewski. Once the 74-year-old coach took in the applause, he began to squint with emotion. Boeheim's wife, Juli, was seen on the live ESPN broadcast getting emotional as her husband was greeted by the crowd.
