Stranger repeatedly gropes woman as she fights back with her umbrella

Surveillance video released by police Monday shows a woman being chased and repeatedly groped by a man as she uses her umbrella to try to fight him off, authorities said.

The 30-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk of Livonia and Rockaway avenues in Brownsville around 8 a.m. on March 10 when the stranger passed her and then turned around and grabbed her, police said.

Surveillance footage from a nearby storefront shows the stranger repeatedly slapping her behind as she tries to get away from him — even running into the middle of the street.

She tries to no avail to push the man off before she begins hitting him with her umbrella, the video shows.

The suspect — who was wearing a black hooded jacket with an intricate design on the back — fled from the scene. The woman was not injured.

The attack was similar in nature to one that happened six days later, just over five miles away inside a Downtown Brooklyn bodega.

Around 12:30 a.m. on March 16, a stranger groped a 29-year-old woman while inside a market on Dekalb Avenue near Ashland Place, cops said. Video from the incident shows he slapped the woman’s buttocks repeatedly — even while she was on the phone with police.

It was not immediately clear if the incidents were related.
