Steve Irwin's family remembers him on his birthday

Steve Irwin’s two children posted special tributes for their late father on his birthday Thursday.

The Crocodile Hunter, who tragically died in September 2006 from a stingray attack, would have been 57 years old.

His daughter, Bindi, 20, shared a sweet throwback with her father.

“Thank you for always being my guiding light,” she captioned the shot.

His son, Robert, 15, shared an image of Google’s tribute to the late animal enthusiast.

“Thank you so much, @google for honouring dad with his own #GoogleDoodle all over the world,” he captioned his post. “A perfect way to celebrate his birthday, sharing everything he did to make the world a better place.”

“Many thanks to @Google for commemorating Steve’s life so beautifully on this special day,” Irwin’s wife, Terri, wrote on Twitter.

In a blog post for Google, Terri Irwin expanded on the meaning of the special day to her family.

“We are so proud that his legacy lives on, as that was his greatest wish,” she wrote. “He once said, ‘I don’t care if I’m remembered, as long as my message is remembered.'”

“Losing Steve was a real crossroads for us, but together we decided to continue his mission,” she added. “Bindi, Robert and I have dedicated our lives to the wildlife conservation work that Steve began.”
