‘Someone Great’ Trailer Sends Gina Rodriguez on a Breakup Adventure

Breaking up is hard to do — but it’s a little easier with the help of good friends and an epic night in New York City.
Netflix unveiled the trailer for its upcoming romantic comedy “Someone Great.” Well, the tone is rom-com, but it comes with a twist. Jenny (Gina Rodriguez) lands her dream job in San Francisco, but her boyfriend of nine years (Lakeith Stanfield) doesn’t want to move or try long-distance dating.
After the breakup, Jenny is depressed — “I leave in a week, and then I turn 30, and then I die, probably” — so her besties (Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise) bolster her spirits by taking her on one last adventure in NYC.
Call it more of a post-romantic comedy, since the relationship at the heart of it is (seemingly) over, or even a platonic comedy, since the female friendships take center stage.
“Someone Great” premieres April 19 on Netflix.
