White House considering stricter international travel testing requirements amid omicron variant

The Biden administration is considering tightening requirements for international travel amid growing concerns about the omicron variant of the coronavirus, a White House official told NBC News on Tuesday.

The official said the administration is continuing "to evaluate the appropriate measures to protect the American people from Covid-19" and the new variant, including "considering more stringent testing requirements for international travel."

"Policy discussions are ongoing across the government and no final decisions have been made," the official added.

The discussion comes on the heels of the federal government restricting travel for non-U.S. citizens from South Africa and seven other countries in an effort to contain the variant. Cases were first reported in South Africa and it's since surfaced in other countries, including Belgium, Canada and Israel.

In remarks Monday, President Joe Biden called the variant "a cause for concern, not a cause for panic." On Thursday, Biden is expected to lay out his administration's plan for combating Covid-19 this winter.

Impex Fitness Recalls Dumbbell Handles

Pomona, California-based Chi Hsin Impex Inc., d/b/a Impex Fitness is recalling certain Olympic dumbbell handles due to impact injury hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall involves about 77,200 units of OBB-20 Fitness Gear Olympic Dumbbell Handle with locking collars. The affected dumbbell handles can be used with any olympic-size weight plates in any configuration and allows users to perform various dumbbell exercises.

The recalled Olympic Dumbbell handles are chrome in color and finish, and each dumbbell handle comes with two locking collars in black.

The products, manufactured in China, were sold through Dick’s Sporting Goods stores across the United States and online from July 2015 through July 2021 for about $50.

According to the agency, the locking collars on the dumbbell handles can slip, dropping weights when held perpendicular to the floor, posing an impact injury hazard.

The recall was initiated after Impex received four reports of locking collars that slipped. However, no injuries have been reported to date related to the recalled products.

Consumers are urged to dispose of the old collar and contact Impex Fitness to receive a free replacement set of new locking collars.

  • "We will call on the allies to join Ukraine in putting together a deterrence package," Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told reporters on arrival for talks with his NATO counterparts in Riga.

"We will call on the allies to join Ukraine in putting together a deterrence package," Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told reporters on arrival for talks with his NATO counterparts in Riga.

As part of this package, NATO should prepare economic sanctions to be imposed on Russia if it "decides to chose the worst-case scenario" and boost the military and defense cooperation with Ukraine, he said.
