U.S. Reports 56K New Covid Cases, 539 New Deaths
With 56,669 new cases of coronavirus infection reported on Thursday, total U.S. Covid cases have reached 97,416,413.
539 new casualties reported on the same day took the total number of people that have lost their lives due to coronavirus infection in the country to 1,070,084, as per Johns Hopkins University’s latest data.
Covid positive cases have fallen by 3 percent and deaths have decreased by 5 percent in the last fortnight.
U.S. hospitals reported a 1 percent increase in the number of Covid patients in the last two weeks. The number of I.C.U. admissions due to the worse stage of the viral disease also increased by 2 percent.
27,002 people are hospitalized due to Covid. 3,193 of these patients are admitted in intensive care units.
The nation’s current test positivity rate is 8.6 percent.
As per the latest data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 226,933,827 Americans, or 68.4 percent of the eligible population, have been administered both doses of Covid vaccine so far. This includes 93.2 percent of people above 65.
7.3 percent of the eligible population, or 22,820,618 people, have already received two booster doses, which is recommended to provide additional protection from the killer virus.
40.6 percent of the eligible population, or 26,796,838 people, have taken a second booster dose.
2,663 additional deaths were reported globally on Thursday, taking the total number of people who have lost their lives due to the pandemic so far to 6,587,616.

Pedestrian dies after being hit by a commercial vehicle in Commerce City
A pedestrian died Thursday night in Commerce City when hit by a vehicle, police said.
The crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. in the 9600 block of East 96th Avenue, police said in a news release.
The pedestrian, who died at the scene, was walking in a roadway when struck by a “commercial vehicle,” according to police. An investigation is ongoing.
East 96th Avenue was closed between Alton Street and Heinz Way for about three hours after the crash. Thursday night’s incident is the fifth fatal traffic crash in Commerce City this year, police said, eight people have died in the crashes.
Brother Recalls Power Adapters Sold With AirSure DF-2 Dynamic Filtration Tabletop Air Purifiers
Brother International Corp. has recalled about 16,300 Meic power adapters sold with AirSure DF-2 dynamic filtration tabletop air purifiers due to electrical shock hazard.
According to Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Meic AC power adapter casing can break while the adapter is being plugged into or removed from an electrical outlet, exposing its metal prongs, posing electrical shock and electrocution hazards.
The company said it has received one report of an incident of the adapter breaking and exposing its metal prongs. No injuries have been reported.
The recall involves Meic AC power adapters sold with Brother AirSure DF-2 Dynamic Filtration Tabletop Air Purifiers. The power adapters are black and have the name “Meic” imprinted in white on the side of the adapter. “Brother” and “DF-2” are printed on the front of the air purifier.
The recalled product was sold online at brother-usa.com and Amazon.com from March 2022 through September 2022 for about $130 for the AirSure DF-2 Dynamic Filtration Tabletop Air Purifier with the AC adapter.
Fresenius Medical Care Now Sees FY Income To Decline In High Teens To Mid-twenties Percentage Range
Fresenius Medical Care (FMS) reported that it now expects 2022 net income attributable to shareholders of the company to decline in the high teens to mid-twenties percentage range.
Fresenius Medical Care specified that it continues to operate in a challenging environment, the impacts of the Company’s focused efforts to improve North American Health Care Services operations are delayed against previous assumptions.
Therefore, Fresenius Medical Care now assumes lower contributions in the financial year 2022.
But, the company still sees revenue to grow at a low-single digit percentage range in 2022.
The Group noted that revenue and net income guidance are both on a constant currency basis and before special items.
