After Zion Williamson limped off the court with a potential knee injury, the sneaker company Puma decided to pounce on the situation as the Duke star’s fall was caused by his exploding Nike sneaker.

“Wouldn’t have happened in the Pumas,” the company tweeted to its 20,000 followers at 9:27 p.m. before deleting about an hour and a half later.

The situation with Williamson got potentially more serious as the game, which North Carolina won 88-72, went on with Williamson declared out with a knee injury. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said afterward, though, that it was a minor knee sprain.

Duke is four years into a 12-year deal with Nike as the exclusive supplier of uniforms, shoes and apparel. The private school didn’t disclose terms of the 2015 contract extension. Nike has had an exclusive deal with the university since 1992.

“We are obviously concerned and want to wish Zion a speedy recovery,” Nike said in a statement. “The quality and performance of our products are of utmost importance. While this is an isolated occurrence, we are working to identify the issue.”

Nike shares dropped 2 percent Thursday morning.
