Museo del Barrio to honor Hector Xtravaganza
An extravagant crowd will gather at the Museo del Barrio at 1 p.m., Saturday, to celebrate the life of Hector Xtravaganza, a force in the ballroom community for 40 years.
The “vogueing” dancer, born Hector Crespo, was a still photographer on “Paris Is Burning” and designed for Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown.
He died in December at 60 after a long battle with AIDS.
Scores of members of the House of Xtravaganza are expected, as well as the Houses of Pendavis, Ebony and Dupree.
Cast members from Ryan Murphy’s show “Pose” will come because Hector was the ballroom consultant and played a guest judge on the FX show.
Billy Porter, of “Kinky Boots,” was paying homage to Hector when he wore a tuxedo/dress to the Oscars.
