When do NCAA Tournament games start? March Madness schedule for First Four and first-round games

The logistics of the 2021 NCAA men's basketball tournament have led to a slight shift in the traditional Thursday-Sunday schedule of marathon action from the first and second rounds.

With participants requiring negative COVID-19 tests and quarantining upon arrival in the greater Indianapolis area, first-round games will instead start a day later, on Friday. The second round will take place on Sunday and Monday. Other than that, however, the viewing experience should not differ much.

Games will tip off both Friday and Saturday at 12:15 p.m. EST on CBS, and the final game for each day is scheduled for 9:57 p.m. — and will almost surely end on the other side of midnight.

The four play-in games, usually played on the Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the tournament, will all be played Thursday.

Police shoot pepper balls to disperse ‘unruly’ crowd in Miami Beach as spring break converges on Florida

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police in Miami Beach kicked off what was expected to be a busy spring break weekend by shooting pepper balls in order to disperse a crowd that had gathered around officers who were making an arrest.

The Miami Beach Police Department tweeted Friday night that two officers were injured and had to be taken to a hospital. They were released early Saturday but remained off-duty because of their injuries, the police department said in an emailed statement.

James Harrison, 19, of Brooklyn, was arrested on charges of battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, inciting a riot and disorderly conduct. Harrison shouted obscenities at police officers when they tried to break up a crowd of more than 200 people that was blocking traffic, smoking cannabis and carrying around open containers, according to a police report released Saturday.

Harrison then pushed an officer and the crowd surrounded officers who were outnumbered at the intersection in the heart of Miami Beach’s famous nightclub and restaurant district, the police report said.

Two officers fired pepper balls “due to the large, aggressive, unruly crowd and the immediate posing threats to officer safety,” the police report said.

Indiana fires men’s basketball coach Archie Miller after four middling seasons

After four years spent struggling to break into the top half of the Big Ten, Indiana has fired men’s basketball coach Archie Miller, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndyStar on Monday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation.

Miller finishes his Hoosiers career with a 67-58 record. He went 33-44 in Big Ten play.

One of the brightest young coaches in the country when he was hired from Dayton, Miller brought big expectations and plenty of hope to Bloomington. He promised a hard-nosed defensive style, a team that attacked relentlessly in transition and a program defined by toughness. And he recruited well, particularly in-state, where he landed multiple McDonald’s All-Americans and signed three consecutive IndyStar Mr. Basketball winners, a first in program history.
