Missing Bronx bodega cat returned, alleged thief in custody

A beloved Bronx bodega cat has been returned to its owners.

Shopkeeper Ismael Diaz told The Post a stranger just walked in with the 2-month-old family pet Thursday afternoon.

Moments later, the cat burglar himself returned to the store, Ismael Gourmet Deli, on West 238th Street and apologized to the 39-year-old owner for snatching the cat on Saturday.

“He apologized,” Diaz said. “He’s just a boy. He said it was unintentional, but he clearly grabbed it.”

He had sent in the stranger to return the cat, according to Diaz.

The owner said he didn’t want to press charges, but he had to call the cops. The thief was taken into custody and was being processed by police as of 1:15 p.m., police said.

Diaz, though, said all that matters is the cat is back in the store and that his 10-year-old son, who has autism, has been reunited with his feline friend.

“It was hard to explain to him,” he said. “My son is super happy now.”
