NYPD sergeant found dead of apparent suicide on Staten Island

An NYPD sergeant was found dead of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday afternoon on Staten Island, law enforcement sources told the Post.

The off-duty transit cop, who works in Brooklyn, was discovered around 2 p.m. at his Richmondtown home by co-workers who became worried when he did not show up for work and decided to check on him, sources said.

The victim is the fifth NYPD cop to take his own life this summer.

The NYPD offers counseling with the Employee Assistance Unit and the Chaplains Unit and also encourages the use of Police Officers Providing Peer Assistance (POPPA), which is separate from the department.

Jeff McNeil leaves Mets game after being hit by pitch

Jeff McNeil left Sunday’s Mets game during the first inning after being hit by a pitch. He was diagnosed with a shin contusion and X-rays were negative, according to the team.

The 27-year-old, who entered the day second in the National League with a .336 batting average, initially stayed in the game but was removed for a pinch-hitter when the Mets batted around in a six-run opening inning.

Aaron Altherr took McNeil’s place. Michael Conforto, who hit a two-run homer, shifted from center field to right, where McNeil started, while Altherr entered in center.

Knife-wielding man tased after walking into NYPD precinct

A man was tased by cops after walking into a precinct station house carrying a knife in East New York, a new video shows.

In a clip posted to Twitter by the Sergeant’s Benevolent Association Sunday afternoon, a man can be seen casually walking into the 75 Precinct’s lobby with a knife.

The armed man stands in the lobby unfazed for about 30 seconds before cops see him and about half a dozen pull their weapons.

The man is eventually tasered, drops to the ground and is arrested. He was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, according to the NYPD.

No further details about the incident were immediately available.
