Flowers Foods Inc (FLO) Wednesday reported a first-quarter loss of $5.77 million or $0.03 per share, compared with profit of $65.87 million or $0.31 per share last year.
Adjusted earnings for the quarter was $0.41 per share compared to $0.32 in the prior year quarter. Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.33 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts’ estimates typically exclude special items.
The company’s revenue for the quarter rose 6.8% to $1.35 billion from $1.26 billion last year. Analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.32 billion.

Brazilian parking company Allpark raises $59 million in IPO
SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian parking company Allpark will raise 345 million reais ($59 million) with an initial public offering, according to public records released by Brazil’s industry watchdog CVM.
The company priced the offering at 10.50 reais per share, the bottom of the suggested price range. But two sources with knowledge of the matter said the IPO had enough demand that allowed the company to sell the over allotment. One of the sources said there was demand from foreign investors.
Winnipeg police lay arson charges in connection with Selkirk Avenue fire
Winnipeg police have laid arson charges in connection with a fire in the North End Monday morning.
Fire crews were called to the blaze behind a building in the 300 block of Selkirk Avenue around 8:30 a.m.
Police say a bystander was arrested at the scene.
Body found at Winnipeg dump turns out to be a bear: police
Winnipeg police say reports of possible human remains found at the Brady Landfill this week turned out to be unfounded.
Police were called to the landfill on Brady Road Tuesday after someone said they may have found a body.
In a short news release Wednesday, police said it was not a human body.
Rare townhouse on hidden Manhattan cul-de-sac hits market
A renovated Upper East Side townhouse on a unusual cul-de-sac has hit the market.

Treasury's Mnuchin says U.S. will slowly reopen economy
WASHINGTON, May 13 (Reuters) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Wednesday the economy will be reopened slowly but he cautioned that waiting too long risked severe economic damage.
“We’re going to slowly open the economy,” Mnuchin told Fox News in an interview.

China reports 3 new coronavirus cases, down from 7 a day earlier
BEIJING (REUTERS) – China reported 3 new coronavirus cases for May 13, down from 7 cases a day earlier, the country’s health commission said.
All of the new cases were locally transmitted – two in the north-eastern Liaoning province and one in Jilin province that borders Liaoning, the National Health Commission said in a statement on Thursday (May 14).
The number of new asymptomatic cases rose to 12 from 8 a day earlier.
The total number of cases now stands at 82,929 while the death toll remained unchanged at 4,633.
Mobile home fire in Britannia Beach, B.C. leaves two dead
The BC Coroners Service investigating the deaths of two people following a fire at a mobile home in Britannia Beach overnight.
The service says the victims were a man in his late 30s and a woman in her late 40s.

Rocker Melissa Etheridge said her 21-year-old son, Beckett Cypher, died from an opioid overdose.
“Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction,” Etheridge said in a statement posted to Instagram on her son’s death earlier today. “My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends.”
“My heart is broken,” she added. “I am grateful for those who have reached out with condolences and I feel their love and sincere grief. We struggle with what else we could have done to save him, and in the end we know he is out of the pain now,” she said. “I will sing again, soon. It has always healed me.”
Etheridge, an Oscar and Grammy winner, had been expecting to perform one of her regular “Concerts From Home” online tonight via Facebook Live. That show was canceled.
