Man mauled to death by his relative’s dogs: cops
A pack of dogs fatally mauled a 53-year-old Texas man at his relative’s house, police said.
The victim’s brother called police at around 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday to report that three dogs attacked his brother at a home in Galveston County and that he thought his brother might be dead, Click2Houston reported. The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Neither he nor his brother is being publicly identified.
“You know, the family is distraught. They were at the hospital with their loved one,” Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said.
Police are still working to determine the breed of the dogs. They said the dogs belonged to a relative but did not specify who.
Galveston County Animal Resource Center took the dogs into custody and they are being held at a shelter in Texas City. Their fate has yet to be determined.
Several questions remain about how the incident unfolded and it’s unclear if police will file any charges.
“Were they in a certain area that they weren’t supposed to be? And he would not have been aware that they were there until it was too late?” Trochesset told Click2Houston.
A spokesperson from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment on Thursday.
