Long-Lost Aretha Franklin Concert Film ‘Amazing Grace’ To Get Theatrical Release

The long-lost Aretha Franklin documentary, Amazing Grace, filmed in 1972, is set for a theatrical release on April 5.

Amazing Grace documents the making of Franklin’s gospel album of the same name, which sold more than two million copies in the United States, making it the biggest seller of Franklin’s entire career and the best-selling gospel album in music history.

The movie was originally shot in 1972 during Franklin’s performances at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Neon will release the film in select New York and Los Angeles theaters.

IndieWire reported that the documentary was shelved for years due to legal issues, which prevented it from being rolled out as a companion to the album.
