Muhammad breaks world record in 400 hurdles
DES MOINES, Iowa — Dalilah Muhammad broke a 16-year-old world record in the 400-meter hurdles by finishing in 52.20 seconds on a drizzly night at the U.S. championships.
With puddles on the track Sunday, the reigning Olympic champion eclipsed the mark of 52.34 set by Yuliya Pechonkina of Russia on Aug. 8, 2003.
Muhammad’s previous best time was 52.64 in 2017.
Teenager Sydney McLaughlin was second and Ashley Spencer wound up third to also earn spots in the world championships in Doha, Qatar. Kori Carter didn’t compete in the event but has an automatic bye into worlds as the defending champion.
Police in Canada detain man after 4 found dead inside home
Police in Canada have detained a 20-year-old man after finding four people dead in a home north of Toronto.
York regional police did not say what charges the man faced after he was taken into custody Sunday afternoon in Markham, Ontario.
Authorities say police went to the home just before 3 p.m. after receiving reports that people may have been injured. Officers met a man at the front door and then found the four bodies inside.
Police have not released the names, ages or genders of the dead. They also have not commented on what happened

Drive-by shooting at Miami synagogue leaves one man injured: report
A man was struck by gunfire in a drive-by shooting outside a synagogue in Miami on Sunday, a report said.
The 69-year-old man was shot at least six times in the leg while sitting outside Young Israel of Greater Miami, according to The Miami Herald.
The victim was taken to Aventura Medical Center, and was listed in stable condition on Sunday night.
It wasn’t clear who fired the weapon.
The shooting took place after a number of incidents at houses of worship, including the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh where 11 people were killed in October.
