Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning to call a snap election for Sept. 20 and will make the formal announcement this Sunday, four sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

Trudeau aides have said for months that the ruling Liberals would push for a vote before the end of 2021, two years ahead of schedule. Trudeau only has a minority government and relies on opposition parties to push through legislation.

Cipla Gets FDA Nod For Generic Equivalent Of Novartis’ Durezol – Quick Facts

Global pharmaceutical company Cipla Limited has received final FDA approval for its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Difluprednate Ophthalmic Emulsion 0.05%. It is AB-rated generic therapeutic equivalent version of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation’s Durezol. The company said the product will be available for shipping soon.

Cipla’s Difluprednate Ophthalmic Emulsion 0.05% is used for: treatment of inflammation and pain associated with ocular surgery; and treatment of endogenous anterior uveitis.

Cipla is focused on agile and sustainable growth, complex generics, and deepening portfolio in its home markets of India, South Africa, North America, and key regulated and emerging markets.

Producer prices soar 7.8% annually in July, most on record

Producer prices accelerated at the fastest annual pace on record in July as supply chain disruptions and materials shortages continued to put upward pressure on costs.

The producer price index for final demand increased at a 7.8% pace for the 12 months ended July, according to the Labor Department. The July print was faster than the 7.3% pace recorded in June and ahead of the 7.3% rate that analysts surveyed by Refinitiv were expecting. The reading was the strongest since recordkeeping began in November 2010. 

Producer prices rose 1% in July, matching the increase from June. Analysts were anticipating prices would grow at a 0.6% pace.

Marqeta Shares Tank 14% On Wider Q2 Loss

Shares of modern card issuing platform Marqeta, Inc. (MQ) are down 14 percent on Thursday’s trading as the company posted wider loss in the second quarter, mainly hit by increased employee-related costs.

During the three-month period, the company reported net loss of $68.5 million or $0.29 per share, compared to net loss of $7.1 million or $0.06 per share a year ago.

Net revenues, however, soared 76 percent to $122.3 million from $69.4 million in the same period last year, while analysts were looking for revenues of $108 million for the period.

Currently at $25.41, the stock has traded between $23.83 and $32.75 during the 52-week range.

Eco-Med Pharma Recalls Certain Lots Of Eco-Gel 200 Ultrasound Gel

Eco-Med Pharmaceuticals Inc. has commenced a voluntary recall of certain lots of its Eco-Gel 200 ultrasound gel after 15 people got sick due to bacterial contamination.

Eco-Med Pharmaceuticals said it doesn’t know how its ultrasound gels got contaminated with the Burkholderia cepacia bacterial complex. These ultrasound gels are non-sterile and not indicated for sterile procedures, the company said in a statement. The Canadian company has recalled eight lots of EcoGel 200 and MediChoice M500812. The recalled EcoGel 200 and MediChoice M500812 lot Nos. are B029; B030; B031; B032; B040; B041; B048; and B055.

Eco-Med said it is conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the root cause of this contamination and take all necessary corrective action. Eco-Med is instructing all health care facilities to identify the affected products by lot number and immediately destroy or return products from affected lots to Eco-Med.

The effects of the bacteria range from no symptoms at all to serious infections. Bcc bloodstream infections may result in sepsis and in certain cases, potentially death. Use of ultrasound gels manufactured by Eco-Med have been associated with at least 15 infections to date, including bloodstream infections.

The gel also was distributed in Canada, Honduras, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday assured India Inc that the government is ready to do everything required to revive and support economic growth.

There are indicators which suggest that the economy is buoyant and recovery is taking place post lifting of COVID-19 restrictions by states, she said while addressing the CII Annual Meeting 2021.

She further said foreign direct investment has seen a growth of 37% so far this fiscal, while forex reserves increased to $620 billion as of July.

The Narendra Modi government has shown commitment to reforms even during the pandemic, she said, adding last year the Centre announced farm laws and labour reforms, among others.

She also exhorted the industry to come forward and invest in the economy.
