Jussie Smollett given special permission to travel before trial

Jussie Smollett has been given special permission to leave Illinois while he awaits trial.

A Chicago judge told the embattled “Empire” star on Monday that he’s allowed to travel to New York and California to meet with his legal team, but nowhere else.

Smollett is facing disorderly conduct charges for filing a false police report and allegedly staging a racist and homophobic attack. The 36-year-old actor, who is gay and black, has denied the allegations against him. He is currently out on bond.

Smollett had been prohibited from leaving the state without getting permission from the judge in his case. He is allowed to attend meetings with his attorneys, but can’t leave the country.

His next court date is March 14.
