Jack White Donates $10,000 To Restore Negro League Ballpark

Jack White has donated $10,000 to a crowd-funding campaign to renovate the historic Hamtramck Stadium near his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

Hamtramck Stadium, one of the few remaining Negro Leagues ballparks in the U.S., was home to the Negro League’s Detroit Stars.

The joint effort by the Piast Institute, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium aims to raise $100,000 dollars for the project.

“As a field that’s welcomed at least 18 members of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, including great Negro League players like Turkey Stearnes, Josh Gibson, and Satchel Paige, Hamtramck Stadium serves as an important reminder of African-American history here in metro Detroit and across the country,” Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium founder and president Gary Gillette said in a statement.
