Hollywood producer’s own wild real-life story might get movie treatment
A top Hollywood producer could have his own wild real-life story coming to the screen.
After a feature story was posted by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday — detailing how Oscar-nominated producer David Permut began his career as an LA teen selling maps to movie stars’ homes — we hear that Permut’s been getting TV and film offers for his tale.
The story in THR told of how Permut at age 15 sold the star maps on a roadside — and his growing business wound up pitting him “against some of the most powerful forces in town, including the L.A. City Council and a Las Vegas casino operator with ties to the Chicago mob.” He even wound up allied with stars such as Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson to try and save his maps biz in a case that went all the way to the California Supreme Court.
After the article ran, we hear that Permut was flooded over the weekend with calls and emails, including interest in bringing his rollicking tale to the screen.
He’s previously produced such films as “Hacksaw Ridge” and “Face/Off.”
But the gobsmacked producer told us in an email when reached for comment, “I have always been enamored with telling other people’s true stories and bringing them to the screen. Now it looks like I may bring my own!”
