CDC estimates 13% of all cases in NY and NJ could be omicron infections, Director Walensky says

The new, highly mutated omicron Covid-19 variant now accounts for an estimated 13% of all cases in New York and New Jersey, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The variant, which was first detected in southern Africa about a month ago, has spread to 36 states and 75 countries, accounting for roughly 3% of all cases across the U.S., CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said during a White House Covid-19 briefing Wednesday.

"We expect the proportion of omicron cases here in the United States to continue to grow in the coming weeks," she said.

Rep. Duncan to introduce bill to cut federal funding from cities that allow noncitizens to vote

Legal immigrant rips NYC for considering voting rights for non-citizens: ‘Being an American citizen is a privilege’

Mexican immigrant Mayra Flores argued elections should only be determined by American citizens ‘from the top to the bottom ticket.’

FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., plans to introduce a bill to cut off funding for governments that allow noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections, Fox News has learned.

Duncan’s bill would follow a companion bill from Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., which he announced Dec. 10 and plans to bring to the Senate floor at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Rubio announced his bill in direct response to a New York City Council measure approved last week, which allows hundreds of thousands of non-citizens living there to vote in its elections. Outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the measure despite acknowledging that it may face “big legal questions.”

“No city which allows non-U.S. citizens to vote should receive U.S. government funds,” Rubio said. “Next week I am going to file a bill to make that the law.”

This is a developing story.
