Dolly Parton Donates $200,000 To Volunteer Fire Departments
Dolly Parton has donated $200,000 to eight volunteer fire departments who helped fight the 2016 wildfires in East Tennessee.
Parton donated the money through the Dollywood Foundation’s My People Fund. Parton gave $20,000 to each volunteer fire department and $40,000 to their area training center.
“It is only fitting that the last of the My People Fund will go to those who were the first to respond to the fires,” Parton said in a press release.
Tim Baker, the chief of Waldens Creek volunteer fire department and the president of the Sevier County Fire Chiefs Association, thanked Parton and said the department will use the funds to buy new gear and replace the roof on the fire station.
Baker also said the donation to the training center will help build a new classroom at the facility.
