Seelos Gets Acknowledgement Letter Of Clinical Trial Notification For Pilot Study Of SLS-005

Seelos Therapeutics, Inc. (SEEL) has received an acknowledgement letter of a Clinical Trial Notification from the Australian Government Department of Health Therapeutic Goods Administration for a pilot study of SLS-005 for the treatment of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Also, Seelos received authorization to conduct a separate open-label basket study in Australia to evaluate the effectiveness of SLS-005 in participants with selected neurodegenerative diseases including Huntington’s disease.

SLS-005 is a low molecular weight disaccharide that crosses the blood brain barrier and is thought to stabilize proteins and activate autophagy through the activation of Transcription Factor EB, a key factor in lysosomal and autophagy gene expression.

European Economics Preview: German Unemployment Data Due

Unemployment from Germany is due on Wednesday, headlining a light day for the European economic news.

At 2.00 am ET, UK Nationwide house price data is due for February. Economists forecast house prices to rise 10.7 percent annually after climbing 11.2 percent in January.

At 3.00 am ET, Spain’s labor agency publishes monthly unemployment data.

In the meantime, final GDP from Hungary and consumer prices from Austria are due.

At 3.55 am ET, the Federal Labor Agency is set to release Germany’s unemployment data for February. The number of unemployed is forecast to fall 25,000 after declining 48,000 in the previous month.

At 5.00 am ET, Eurostat is scheduled to issue eurozone flash inflation data. Economists forecast annual inflation to rise further to 5.4 percent in February from 5.1 percent in January.

Invacare Corp Q4 Earnings Summary

Below are the earnings highlights for Invacare Corp (IVC):

Earnings: $1.94 million in Q4 vs. -$5.12 million in the same period last year.
EPS: $0.06 in Q4 vs. -$0.15 in the same period last year.
Excluding items, Invacare Corp reported adjusted earnings of $2.64 million or $0.08 per share for the period.

Analysts projected $0.02 per share
Revenue: $226.19 million in Q4 vs. $224.04 million in the same period last year.

UK House Price Inflation Strongest Since June 2021: Nationwide

UK house prices grew at the fastest pace in eight months in February driven by robust demand and limited stock of homes, the Nationwide Building Society reported Wednesday.

House price inflation unexpectedly increased to 12.6 percent from 11.2 percent in January. This was the strongest since June last year. Economists had forecast the rate to ease to 10.7 percent.

On a monthly basis, house prices gained 1.7 percent, faster than the 0.8 percent rise posted in January. Prices were forecast to rise 0.6 percent.

The price of a typical home rose above GBP 260,000 for the first time in February.

Prices climbed GBP 29,162 over the past twelve months. This was the largest ever annual increase in cash terms since the start of the monthly index in 1991.

The price of a typical home was 20 percent higher than in February 2020 – the month before the pandemic struck the UK.

The continued buoyancy of the housing market is a little surprising, given the mounting pressure on household budgets from rising inflation and borrowing costs, Robert Gardner, Nationwide’s chief economist, said.

There is scope for inflation to rise even further as events in Ukraine threaten to send global energy prices even higher, noted Gardner.

Assuming that labor market conditions remain strong, the economist said the Bank of England is also likely to raise interest rates, which will exert a further drag on the market if this feeds through to mortgage rates.

Deutsche Post DHL Group Annual Earnings Surge

Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPSGY.PK), a package delivery and supply chain management major, on Wednesday posted a surge in earnings for the fiscal 2021, with an increase in demand for logistic solutions, driven by a significant increase in global trade and ecommerce.

For the fiscal-2021, the Bonn-headquartered firm reported a net profit of 5.05 billion euros or 4.01 euros per share, compared with 2.97 billion euros or 2.36 euros per share, reported for the fiscal 2020.

Reflecting a firm demand, the company’s EBIT for the 12-month period moved up to 7.97 billion euros, from 4.84 billion euros, on year-on-year basis.

The company said it will propose for an increased dividend of 1.80 euros per share this year.

For the fiscal 2021, the German firm generated a revenue of 81.74 billion euros, compared with 66.71 billion euros, reported for previous year.

Looking ahead, for the fiscal 2022, the Group expects its EBIT to be at 8 billion euros. It also expects EBIT to increase to around 8.5 billion euros in 2024.

For the period from 2020 to 2024, the Group anticipates a cumulative gross capital expenditure of around 12 billion euros.
