Bronx baby’s death ruled a homicide after drugs found in system

A 1-year-old Bronx boy’s death in December was ruled a homicide Wednesday, after a toxicology report showed he had drugs in his system when he died, police said.

Darwin Gonzalez-Santana died on Dec. 27, after officers were notified of an unconscious baby inside a taxi on University Avenue in Morris Heights.

Police rushed the tot to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved.

Darwin had no obvious signs of trauma at the time of his death, but the city medical examiner found traces of narcotics in his system, police said.

No one is in custody for the child’s death and police are still investigating. A spokesperson for the ME’s office could not immediately be reached for comment.
