Two Upright Citizens Brigade comedians were surprised to learn that a musical is in development about feminist fairy tales built around Britney Spears songs, since it sounds suspiciously like a show they created.

Laura Lane and Ellen Haun wrote “Femme Fairy Tales” — woke versions of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty — and performed for over a year at UCB’s Chelsea and LA theaters, and just signed a book deal.

Broadway musical “Once Upon a One More Time” will imagine what would happen if princesses were influenced by feminist lit.

Lane and Haun told us, “We ran our show about feminist princesses for over a year, and we thought it was nearly perfect. We now realize the only thing that would have made it better are [Spears’] songs. We’re thrilled Britney also realizes that classic patriarchal fairy tales are toxic.”

They added, “We wish we could say we are bummed we weren’t asked to audition, but if you saw our finale song and dance number to ‘A Woke New World,’ you would know we can’t actually sing or dance.”

A Spears rep didn’t get back to us.
