Brandi Carlile Hoping To Work With Other Female Artists
Grammy winner Brandi Carlile has expressed her desire collaborate with more female musicians and called for a level playing field for all artists, irrespective of gender.
“There are so many women, Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, that I absolutely adore right now in music and we are leading the way,” Carlile told Taste of Country.
“Courtney Marie Andrews, Maggie Rogers, Jade Bird, Amanda Shires, Sheryl Crow, Maren Morris — I can go on and on — Andra Day,” she continued, reciting a long list of female artists she truly admires and hopes to work with.
Carlile added that it is disheartening to discover that some of her favorite artists are being denied the opportunities offered to their male counterparts, but that the 2019 Grammy Awards, which revolved around the theme of gender equality, is filling her with hope.
“Tonight gives me hope as a mother of two young daughters,” she said backstage at last month’s awards show.
Having received a total of 6 nominations, Carlile took home the Grammy Award for American Roots Song and American Roots Performance for her song “The Joke,” taken from her 2018 album, By the Way, I Forgive You, which won the Grammy for Americana Album.
