Brazil regulator says Bharat Biotech vaccine does not meet factory standards

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian health regulator Anvisa said Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin COVID-19 does not meet its manufacturing standards, according to a note in the Tuesday edition of the official gazette.

The Brazilian government signed a contract last month to buy 20 million doses of the Indian drugmaker’s vaccine. Bharat Biotech applied for emergency use of the vaccine in Brazil on March 8.

German health ministers to discuss use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 shot

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s health minister will hold a meeting with his regional counterparts at 1800 CET (1600 GMT) on Tuesday to discuss the use of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, a health ministry spokesman said.

The meeting follows further reports by Germany’s vaccine regulator, the Paul Ehrlich Institute, of cases of blood clots known as cerebral sinus vein thrombosis (CSVT).

Stock Alert: Butterfly Network Down 13%

Shares of digital health company Butterfly Network, Inc. (BFLY) are down more than 13% Tuesday morning following wider net loss in full-year 2020.

On Monday, the company reported full-year 2020 net loss of $162.7 million compared with net loss of $99.7 million during 2019.

Revenue for the full-year, however, increased 68% to $46.3 million from $27.6 million last year.

“The completion of our business combination with Longview Acquisition Corp. in February 2021 solidifies the company’s financial foundation for the next stage of its growth,” said Stephanie Fielding, Butterfly Network Chief Financial Officer.

BFLY, currently at $15.69, has traded in the range of $9.34- $29.13 in the past one year.

Big Tech Critic Lina Khan Nominated As FTC Commissioner

President Joe Biden has nominated Lina Khan, who is a known critic of big technology firms, for Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission.

A leading voice in the antitrust movement, the 32-year-old woman is currently an associate professor of law at Columbia University’s law school.

She teaches and writes about antitrust law, infrastructure industries law, and the anti-monopoly tradition at Columbia Law School. Her antitrust scholarship has received several awards.

Khan has previously served as counsel to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law, where she helped lead the Subcommittee’s investigation into digital markets.

Khan was also a legal advisor in the office of Commissioner Rohit Chopra at the Federal Trade Commission and legal director at the Open Markets Institute.

Born in London to Pakistani parents, Khan moved with them to the United States when she was 11 years old. She is a graduate of Williams College and Yale Law School.

While still a law student at Yale University, her article “Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox” was published in the Yale Law Journal, which made a significant impact in American legal and business circles.

If confirmed by the Senate, she will become the youngest ever FTC Commissioner.
